The government says the recent progress towards reducing vaccine-preventable diseases and deaths has contributed to the ongoing decline in under five mortality in Garissa. However, there is still need to strengthen health and community systems for immunization strategies to reach out to the targeted group and deliver quality immunization services to every unreached child. Health and Sanitation CEC Hon. Ahmednadhir Omar, said the government was determined to adopt prevention measures instead of focusing on treatment of diseases.

The County government is working in partnership with the National Ministry of Health and UNICEF to conduct social mapping exercise of nomadic population settlements and other points of interest. This will help to guide advocacy, communication and social mobilization (ACSM) activities, health service delivery  among other integrated interventions targeting the special populations. The training was attended by representatives of UNICEF ,WHO and was addressed by Hon. Ahmednadhir Omar who called on the trainees to take the exercise seriously. He reminded the participants the importance of the exercise in improving Primary Health Care systems which is the cornerstone of the UHC agenda.
